The Hidden Line was written to honor my grandfather, Ottie Kleihauer.  Grandpa was born in America, but his German heritage was always on display as his immediate family were German immigrants to America. He served his country during World War II in the US Army from August 1942 until his honorable discharge in January of 1945. Grandpa served in England, France, Belgium, and was present at the Battle of the Bulge. His family was also a founding member of a Lutheran church in rural Iowa where he served in many capacities during his lifetime. His faith was important to him, as was his family. He was a proud farmer, veteran and Lutheran- and I am proud to be his grandson.
